10 Tips on Traveling with Back Pain This Christmas

Traveling during the holidays definitely is not the best part of the season, especially for those with back pain. But that’s why we’re here, to offer you solutions to back pain relief and help you Feel Good so you can Do More. Here are some simple tips to get through the holiday season if you have back pain.

  1. Take your Chirp Wheels with you. The wheels can be packed easily in luggage and with our new 4” Chirp Wheel, it’s easier than ever to just stuff the wheel inside a carry-on, purse, or backpack. That way, you can have back pain relief no matter where you’re going or what old mattress you’re stuck sleeping on.
  2. Bring your favorite pillow. We all have a favorite pillow that cradles our neck just right. Bring it! Pillows are fluffy and can stuff easily inside luggage. And trust us, when your grandma hands you a flat pillow to sleep on for a few nights, you’ll be grateful you listened.
  3. Wear good shoes. If you’re traveling far, chances are you’ll be walking through airports or you could even get stuck in bad weather in your car. Either way, you’ll want good, comfortable shoes with traction so that your back doesn’t take on the brunt of whatever traveling challenge you face.
  4. Time your traveling right. If you’re driving to your destination, time your drive so you don’t get stuck in traffic and are forced to sit in the car even longer than expected. If you’re flying, check in online so you don’t have to stand and wait in long lines. These simple acts can go a long way for your back.
  5. Let people help you carry luggage. Whether you need help at the airport or when you get to a relative’s house, just ask. There are teams of people whose job it is to help. There’s no need to strain yourself and risk a bigger injury to your back.
  6. Bring luggage with wheels. Instead of lugging around a large back or backpack, choose luggage that has wheels so you rarely have to lift or carry your bags.
  7. Take breaks. If you’re driving, stop frequently enough to stretch and loosen up that built-up tension. Roll out on the wheels during your stop. If you’re flying, get up when you can to stretch out your legs, just like you would if you were naturally uncomfortable from sitting at home or the office for so long.
  8. Stay hydrated. Water goes a long way when it comes to your health and back pain. Staying hydrated will keep your spinal discs extra cushioned.
  9. Limit stress when possible. Visiting family can become stressful during the holidays. Take moments to yourself when you need to to calm down whether you read or roll out on the Chirp Wheel. Stress adds tension to your muscles, which doesn’t help with back pain.
  10. Don’t do anything too crazy. If your back is healing from an injury or surgery, don’t play touch football with your friends the night before Christmas because chances are you’ll make your back pain worse. Listen to your body and do what’s right for your back, especially when you’re far from home where your doctor is.
